Retire From
Work, Not Life
The prospect of retirement can question a career man’s sense of self. We can help you redefine your identity and plan your next phase.
Mental Impact
of Retirement
Men have always had roles and tasks to complete. From protecting and hunting, to farming and building, to the thousands of opportunities available to us today, we’re hardwired to work. And rightly or wrongly, we define our self-worth through our jobs.
The biggest pressures that men in modern life face are earning money for their families and being successful in their careers. We’re a nation of achievers and breadwinners, and the lines between who we are and what we do are blurred. For those of us who do identify with our work, retirement in Canada isn’t just about planning for how much money you need. It can be an especially difficult time in our life. If the prospect of losing yourself in endless golf games and jigsaw puzzles doesn’t excite you, there are ways of managing retirement.
Many men choose to keep working in different ways, for example, becoming mentors to youth or thought-leaders and consultants. Retirement isn’t the end. We can help you redefine yourself and rewrite your life through men’s mental health therapy.
The Stress of Retirement
Some men fear that managing retirement means you have to surrender your status and way of life. Others find that when they retire, the hype of having free time doesn’t live up to their expectations. If you’re having trouble adjusting to retirement, you are at a higher risk of falling into depression and experiencing stress.

Dealing with Retirement
Think of your career as various phases of life, rather than something that fully defines you. To help you manage your retirement, we’ll first examine what’s causing you concern. We’ll use coaching and counselling to work together, examine your attitudes and behaviours to explain what’s holding you back, and teach you how to think differently about your situations. We’ll then give you a set of tools to help you visualize the life you want after work. By reframing your mindset about work you can achieve success and a greater sense of fulfillment.
