Prevent A Crisis

Know Your True Self

A mid-life crisis happens when you hit middle age and realize you’re not going to live forever and that maybe life isn’t as exciting as you’d hoped. Rather than it becoming an existential crisis, it can be a chance to appreciate what you have and redefine yourself.

Mid-life Crisis Age in Men

Men born before the 1900s had an average life expectancy of 52. Today, it’s 76. Thanks to healthier lifestyles, medical interventions and technological innovations, men live longer and have switched from dealing with the burden of staying alive to the burden of knowing what to do with life.

And because no-one teaches us what we’re supposed to be doing, some 21st-century men experience a relatively new phenomenon called a mid-life crisis. It’s the realization that our life is half over. Subsequently, we worry that we made the wrong career choice, married the wrong person, haven’t travelled enough…basically we question every decision we’ve ever made. The initial response of some men is to make drastic decisions they later regret, like abandoning a job or a relationship.

Walking away from everything is usually not the answer. Working with a professional can help you make sense of your midlife crisis and define a clear path to finding yourself again.

Symptoms of a Mid-Life Crisis

The mid-life crisis age usually occurs between 45 to 55 years old, but it can hit different people at different ages, and sometimes more than once. It can cause stress, anxiety, depression, or grief, which in turn can negatively impact your physical and mental wellbeing in a number of ways:

  • Changes in appetite

02 Behavioural & Emotional
